Dato Shah Rukh Khan

I would like to put something up about our new datuk. Datuk Shah Rukh Khan. Another blunder datuk of Malacca. Come to think of it, there is no sane senses about this honorific status being given to someone who is undoubtly someone but not that kind of someone who is eligible to be honour with such honour of honouring that kind of someone. This is getting me nowhere near to what I really want to say here.

But three cheers to Ali RUSTam. NO, I don't understand why they still keep him there. I've said this before, after the March Elections, and I'm saying it again. At least politician like Sanusi Junid made sense when they propose something. It is interesting to read posting of many bloggers who seem to be very mindful of this stupidousia.

One of them - news from The Star.. read below

The controversy surrounding the conferment of an honorific title upon Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan continues unabated. Malaysian artistes had expressed shock and disappointment over this matter.

The Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) chairman Datuk Mustapha Maarof told The Star that ‘the intention to award the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka to the actor should have been referred to Finas to determine his eligibility’.

“It is their right to award the title. But we hope the selection of recipients should have been properly considered first. State governments should ensure their awards are given out to only the most qualified candidates or the awards will lose their prestige,” he said in a press conference.

He also named Azean Irdawaty, M. Nasir, Kuswadinata and Ruminah Sidek as artistes deserving to receive the Datukship. He added it was an insult to Malaysians that Shah Rukh Khan did not turn up to accept the award.

Dato Shah Rukh Khan
Posted by: keetawa(I like this name)

Why are there so much excitements over the conferment of Datoship to a Bollywood Actor ? At least he is known by more people than those who know Malaysian actors or actresses? With the exception of perhaps our martial art girl from Ipoh : Michelle Yeoh ?

Why give Datoship to those who would not even deserve some write up in the newspapers? The newspapers will not write something about us even if Datoship is given to people like you or me? At least some girls and men would queve up to see SRK in town ?

May be Filem Negara can feature Shah Rukh Khan dancing from the Dutch designed buildings down to Formosa then up the Bukit China, than down to Melaka River and meet some pirates there? Bollywood story writers may write the excitement on Dato's face when he was informed of the conferment or bewilderment? He could jump into one of AirAsia's latest Airbuses with Tony Fernandez in the pilot seat with a gang of Bollywood dancers dancing from inside the airplane, along the aisle etc, and on arrival at / down at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal [in Malacca?], and thereafter, have a glass of teh tarik, [sponsorship of Boh Tea] etc.

And he would have worn a 'VISIT MALACCA' t-shirt once he walks down from the Airbus.

Perhaps the Malacca Chief Minister who proposed the datoship for SRK will like Shah Rukh Khan to come here before the UMNO election so as to help him get extra votes? Can SRK wear a T-shirt with the CM's photograph plus, Undilah saya!

Any more innovation to add to bring fame to Malacca at no costs or minimal costs? At least the Chief Minister is proud to have few days of news about him and Melaka. Afterall the CM has not paid anybody any publicity money for that?! SRK's name generate good will and publicity for Malacca automatically. Good works, no fee has been given. Good marketing.

Look at the Datoship with an open mind. The proposer may have hidden agenda.

These few days of blogs on SRK prove that the CM had been correct, at least publicity / exposure wise.

Do treat conferment of Datoship as a marketing tool and a public relations exercise. Time has changed.

Well look at it on the lighter side ... now we can call ALL Melaka Datuks a BOLLOWOOD DATUK

I fully agree, why not give the Orang utan in the Visit Malaysia poster a Datukship for his role in promoting Malaysia? Maybe he can dance with Shahrukh up and down the aisle of the Parliament, how about that? cheers.

It very simple equation. Don't you watch Bollywood award shows? This year in Zee Awards... some Dubai real estate bigwig awarded SRK with a 'Lifestyle Icon Award'. If you had watched his reaction, he was totally puzzled and in his acceptance speech he said though he didn't 'get it', he promised to make good out of the award. Ok, we all know that this fella can't act but he happens to have the touch. So a few months later.. SRK launches his mega real estate venture.. SRK Boulevard and is currently venturing into Dubai properties.. big time. So our simple simons in Melaka put 2+2=5 lah.. considering Melaka's jaded past and faltering tourism.. maybe they are just hoping an SRK touch will give them the boost.

Yes, there was a lot of publicity regarding the "Datoship". But the publicity has only focused on Shah Rukh Khan not on Malacca or Malaysia. It has only made SRK more famous. His not coming over to Malacca to receive the award is a minus point in promoting Malacca. There are more deserving recipients from Malacca.
The conferment of the "Datoship" must be based on past deeds and contributions to Malacca or Malaysia not on the hope of "future deeds".
